Why shouldn't truth be stranger than fiction? Fiction, after all, has to make sense.

About me

The Grind

I work for a small company that does mainly government contracts.  They're really great people, and I've been enjoying the time I've been spending here.  Working with good people makes a job so much more enjoyable.  The commute is a bit of a pain (30-40 min drive to the subway station, followed by a 50 minute subway ride) but you get used to it.  Besides, the train gives me a place to catch a nap at the end of the day.

I also do a bit of web design on the side. I'm trying to do less of this, because I'm having trouble explaining the difference between the design phase and the maintenance phase of website construction to customers. This results in customers who feel that since I built their website, I'm obligated to update the site with new content whenever they provide it, at no charge. I should probably have a contract for customers to sign that I can refer to in such cases. Besides, it's a pain to 8 hrs of web design at the office, and then come home only to do more of it.

Hobbies

Biking!
My first and foremost summer activity is cycling. I'm an EOC (equal opportunity cyclist), meaning I enjoy road and mountain biking. My current road ride is a Trek OCLV, which I built myself around 6 years ago (I think). The components are mostly Shimano Dura Ace with a mix of some other stuff. My latest addition has been a pair of Bontrager Race X Lite wheels, and a pair of Speedplay Zero pedals.

My current mountain ride is Jamis Dakar Expert. It's a full suspension mountain bike, with a mixture of Shimano XT and XTR components. I have a Manitou Black suspension fork up front, and Hayes hydraulic disc brakes front and back.

Outdoor stuff!
To round out my warm weather activities, I also enjoy camping, backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, and a few things I'm forgetting about right now.

Skiing!
In the cold weather my activity of choice is downhill skiing. Going fast has always been fun for me, so skiing fits the bill, and since I started skiing at a fairly young age, I'm not half bad at it either. Oh, and in case anyone is interested, my current boards are a pair of K2 CV Comps, 204cm length, with Marker MR bindings.  Yes they're OLD!  But I haven't gotten around to trying those new, fat, shaped skis yet.

Cars!
I recently traded in the gas guzzler and bought a cool Mini Cooper S. It handles pretty well, has plenty of power for its size, and gets about 30mph in the city. We also have a Ford Focus wagon that Jessica drives.

U2!
I'm a huge U2 fan, which is how I met Jessica.  I'm looking forward to their upcoming album and tour.  More on that in my blog.
